Standard of the World was Cadillac's slogan, and it was earned in a way specific enough to be worth repeating. In 1908 the Royal Automobile Club in England had three Cadillacs taken apart, the components mixed into one pile with spare stock, and the cars rebuilt using hand tools. All three then ran five hundred miles. Interchangeable parts were not normal then, and Cadillac took the Dewar Trophy for it.
The sedans and the Escalade sit at opposite ends of what Cadillac does, with the XT4, XT5 and XT6 crossovers filling the middle. On one side are the CT4 and CT5, rear wheel drive sedans whose V-Series versions are built to be driven properly, up to the Blackwings that arrived for 2022 with a manual transmission as standard equipment rather than as the special order option it had become almost everywhere else. On the other side is the Escalade, a full size body on frame SUV with nothing else in the lineup doing the same job.
So Cadillac is not a single decision. An Escalade is a hauling and towing vehicle with a very good interior above it. A CT5 is a driver's car that happens to be quiet. Choosing between them is a question of what the vehicle has to do rather than of how much Cadillac you want. Underneath both, the engineering is General Motors, which is the least exotic thing about the badge.
