The company spent that decade rebuilding how its cars were engineered, assembled and finished, and used values have not entirely caught up with the change. The factory powertrain coverage is unusually long, and on a newer used example there may still be time remaining on it. Certain 2.0 and 2.4 liter Theta II direct injection engines, used in the Sonata, Santa Fe Sport and Tucson across roughly 2011 to 2019, were the subject of recalls and extended engine coverage tied to bearing wear. Not every car from those years is affected, and whether a particular one is comes down to its VIN. The federal recall lookup is free, public and quick, and running it yourself is the cleanest answer available.
