Two vehicles carry most of what people want from the Dodge badge today: a muscle car and a three row SUV. That shows up in the rating. Properly equipped with the V8, a Durango is rated to tow 8,700 pounds, and the word properly is carrying real weight in that sentence. A figure like that is earned by the factory tow group, by the axle ratio the vehicle was ordered with and by the cooling package that came with it. Two Durangos from the same model year can therefore sit a long way apart on that number. It is a question of specification and nothing more.
Today that is one vehicle: a 2020 Durango. When it sells, the next one arrives by trade or auction, so the page is worth a second look if the timing is off.
